Specialized was founded in 1974 by Mike Sinyard. He began by importing high-end bicycle components from Italy; by 1978, Specialized had started manufacturing their own innovative bicycle products. In 1981, they launched the Stumpjumper, the first mass-produced mountain bike, rocketing them into the technologically driven company they are today.
